SomaYoga: Finding Sirum Sukum Asanum with Pam Steinick

SomaYoga: Finding Sirum Sukum Asanum with Pam Steinick

SomaYoga is a blend of classic yoga forms, breath re-education, and Somatics. Somatics is neuromuscular re-education, and helps us to identify and CHANGE reflex patterns in our breath and posture, that are unconscious. In this class, we’ll use Somatics and breath awareness/re-education to uncover some of these patterns and use them to help find more ease in Tadasana and Savasana (standing and lying down.)  The first sutra of yoga says all postures should be “stable, steady, and easy.” Finding better balance standing and lying down helps us move better with the other forms, movements and activities we enjoy. By exploring Red Light, Green Light, and Cringe patterns as well as your resting breath patterns, you’ll leave with a better understanding of your unconscious patterns and some simple practices to help you find better ease!

Pam Steinick is passionate about spreading the work of Therapeutic SomaYoga, Somatics and Buyteko Breath Re-Education.  Her mantra and mission since completing the Level 2 Yoga Therapy, 1000 hour program, with Yoga North International SomaYoga Institute in 2020 is to #spreadsoma. She, along with Ann Maxwell and Molly McManus, co-owners of Yoga North, brought the 200 and 500 hour trainings from Duluth and St. Paul, MN to West Des Moines, Iowa so that more people can experience it and become trained! She has an office for private sessions and also does small, therapeutic classes and workshops inside the space at Core Physical Therapy in West Des Moines, where the SomaYoga trainings are held. There have been 2 programs of the 200 hour training, and the first 500 hour cohort will graduate in July of 2024. Having been an Occupational Therapist for over 30 years, THIS is the work that got Pam out of pain, and has brought her the tools to teach others to do the same for themselves.  In her mid 40’s, Pam had significant neck pain and mobility limitations and surgery seemed to be next in line, in the medical world. Seeing so many of her clients have surgery and continue to have pain and debility, she wanted to find a better way. Pam is now a full-time Yoga Therapist, C-IAYT, ERYT-500, and is looking forward to helping spread this work beyond Iowa! What she loves most about this work is that it teaches people tools they can use on their own, using the tools of Therapeutic Yoga, Somatics, Breath Re-Education, Ayurveda, and Yoga Philosphy.  It empowers people to find more balance in their lives so that they can live their life to the fullest, even into older age!
